BigFoot Visits the Big Cities of the World - Another BigFoot Sighting

Lancaster, PA — Sandy Berg, quilting expert and founder of Raspberry Bramble Designs, knows that finding time to quilt can be a challenge. Now retired, Berg spent her career as a computer specialist and reveled in the pockets of time she could find for quilting. With an understanding of work/life balance challenges, she created a book with do-able projects that don’t require much time and can help quilters achieve grand results in those precious pockets of time.

“I understand how hard it is to have a full time job but still try to pursue a creative endeavor such as quilting,” Berg says. “With my patterns I try to give you projects that are creative, useful, but most of all, very do-able.”

Her book Inspired Star Block Quilts: 12 Projects Using Traditional and Modern Blocks (Landauer Publishing, September, 2019) will help both beginner and experienced quilters create beautiful star-patterned quilts using piecing and paper piecing techniques. Quilters will learn how to form both traditional and modern stars with contemporary settings, like negative space.

Not only is Berg a champion of creating patterns for working quilters, she is also a volunteer with the “Quilts of Valor.” The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing quilts. With the star-like patterns presented in her book, her quilts patterns are not only excellent projects to hone skills, they could also be repurposed for Quilts of Valor donations. Her own Salute to Service quilt, which has been shared widely as a suggested Quilts of Valor project, is available to re-create in this book.

Inspired Star Blocks Quilts launches in September 2019 from Landauer Publishing. To request a review copy or artwork, please email Elizabeth Martins at emartins@foxchapelpublishing.com.

“I want my patterns to be practical as well as fun to do,” Berg says. “I hope that quilters will find something that captures their imagination and allows them to create something meaninful while expressing their own creativity.”
